Watson Caring Science Institute Caritas Coach®

Arveena Balu is a dynamic and compassionate nurse leader serving as the Nurse Manager for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Rapid Response Team, and Stroke Telemetry Unit at Kaiser Permanente. With a rich background spanning emergency departments and urgent care settings, Arveena brings over a decade of clinical and leadership experience rooted in excellence, innovation, and purpose-driven care.

A recipient of the prestigious DAISY Nurse Leader Award, Arveena recently led her ICU team to receive the DAISY Team Award for creating a culture shift through front-line empowerment and the development of a shared decision-making governance structure. Her leadership philosophy is grounded in collaboration, professional growth, and the holistic principles of caring science.

Arveena is also a certified Caritas Coach® and currently serves as the Co-Chair for the 2025 Manager Community of Practice—an initiative focused on peer learning, leadership development, and organizational transformation.

Her passion for nursing ignited at an early age through a deep curiosity about the human body and the healing sciences—despite not having any medical professionals in her family. This drive led her to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from San Jose State University, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of San Francisco. She is also a Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, committed to quality improvement and operational efficiency in healthcare.

Arveena continues to inspire and lead with integrity, compassion, and a relentless pursuit of excellence in patient care and nurse leadership.
