Caroln also is an educator for the CARES program for new grads for the past 2 years and is active in the Caritas Committee.
She has been in acute care nursing since 2007. She worked as a CNA in long term care while pursuing her nursing education. Carolyn has held a variety of positions in nursing in various organizations in addition to being an assistant nurse manager: Heart and Vascular nurse, Hospice nurse, School Nurse, and administrative nurse supervisor to mention a few. She has had many opportunities to gain experience and flourish in her nursing career which has enabled her to have such a varied skillset. Her true calling is on the front line. She enjoys the dynamic and often chaotic environment, in the acute care, adult patient setting.
Her journey with Caring Science began in 2013 when KP Northern California brought in the Theory of Human Caring live to an offsite with Jean Watson when Cariolyn was still relatively new to leadership. She fell in love with Jean Watson’s work and decided to actively educate and use the healing sciences practices within her departments. Dr Watson’s theories inspired a decade of interest and passion to foster self-care and share the language of caring science among the front-line staff. By educating, communicating in the same universal language of caring science, and practicing caring literacy. Her units have been recognized for being the most likely to recommend from patient surveys in addition to being equally recognized for its healthy workplace culture. Carolyn became a Certified Caritas Coach in 2023 and has led as well as co-led the CARES Caring Science classes to New Grads in Northern California. Teaching formal Caritas Classes is the professional setting is a passion she continues to this day. Carolyn is an active participant in the Healing Circles and considers herself incredibly fortunate to share the Theory of Human Caring with you as you embark on this life-altering journey through the Caritas Coach Education Program®.
To balance out all of her energy. Carolyn enjoys her time with her children and in nature. Carolyn is active in her faith-based community and volunteers her time in local schools and other local community events.
