Alice Barry, RN, BSN
Assistant Nurse Manager
WCSI Caritas Coach®
KP CCEP Faculty
Alice Barry was born in France. She grew up in the countryside and was partially home schooled because of a chronic illness. She learned the ways of nature early, tending to animals and gardening. After years of using western medicine unsuccessfully, her parents decided to try homeopathy. Alice experienced a permanent remission which awakened her curiosity about alternative ways of healing, specifically plants as medicine, energy practices, spirituality and conscious movement. Since her childhood, Alice has practiced yoga, meditation and martial arts. She became a certified yoga teacher from the Sivananda Ashram in 1999 and later earned a black belt in Aikido in 2016.
After 20 years working as a massage therapist, Alice became a Registered Nurse in 2014. She has an Associate Degree in Nursing from Santa Rosa Junior College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Sonoma State University and a Graduate Certificate in Palliative Care from the University of Washington. Alice’s nursing career includes her work in skilled nursing, acute care nursing, home health palliative care and case management. Alice currently works as an Assistant Nurse Manager for the Kaiser Santa Rosa Hospital Orthopedic/Oncology and Stroke units.
Alice became a Caritas Coach® in 2023, co-chair of the Caritas Committee at Kaiser Hospital Santa Rosa and co- taught the Caritas Processes® to the Kaiser New-Grads RN residency program in 2024. She is now happily joining the KP Caritas Coach Faculty as a mentor. In the Caring Science of Jean Watson, Alice found the way to integrate her lifelong practices with tools and language to help her nursing colleagues embrace the deeper dimensions of their humanity and live a compassionate life while serving others.
Aside nursing, Alice enjoys gardening, cooking, movement, laughter and deep conversations. She has been assisting her wife and teacher Denise Barry Sensei, with the development of The Agatsu Method™ in 2024. Born out of the inner teachings of Aikido, this method for self-mastery, self-care and healing was developed to help people heal from unresolved trauma and to have more effective tools for handling the pressures of daily life. While integrating these teachings, Alice has manifested a clear intention to live each day aligned to her authentic nature and her purpose in life. This commitment to practice has given her a level of wholeness and clarity that is both empowering and exciting. She finds great joy in sharing with others the practices and principles that support a life of health, autogenic wellness and presence.
