LaMonda Hopman, RN graduated with her BSN from Hawaii Pacific University in 1994 and MSN from the University of Phoenix in 2004. Member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society. She served in the US Military for thirteen years and has been employed in various roles at the VA Houston Health Care System for twenty-eight years. In 2015, she was selected as one of Houston’s top 150 nurses. In 2023, she received the VA Secretary’s Award in Nursing Excellence for the category of RN Expanded Role in Veterans Integrated Service Network 16 (VISN 16) and the city of Houston’s Good Samaritan award. For over fourteen years, she served as Adjunct Faculty at University and Community colleges.
In 2009, she became the first Caritas Coach® in the Veterans Health Administration (America’s largest integrated health care system) and VA Houston Health Care System resulting in VA Houston Health Care System becoming an Affiliate with the Watson Caring Science Institute. Now a Distinguished Affiliate with WCSI for the expansion of Caring Science throughout VISN 16. LaMonda is HeartMath® Trainer, Healing Touch Facilitator, and Healing Circle Facilitator. She was instrumental in creating Caritas Rooms, revision of VA Houston’s RN and LVN functional statements, VA Houston’s Nurse Professional Practice Model, and new nurse orientation. LaMonda loves creating space for staff to do self-care. She is chair of VISN 16’s Caritas Leader Community of Practice leading eight facilities in Caring Science.
LaMonda has a special place in her heart for America’s Military Veterans as she is a service-connect Veteran herself. Her vision is to transform all VA systems one at a time starting with VISN 16 benchmarking excellence in staff’s self-care and patient-centered care. “It is truly an honor to continue to serve America’s Veterans who have sacrificed their lives for our country by giving them the best of ourselves.”
