Performance Excellence
KP CCEP Faculty

Matthew is a visionary nurse leader with a 15-year career rooted in critical care and system-level innovation. Known for aligning strategic thinking with empirical outcomes, Matthew has dedicated his calling to the art and science of human caring, transforming healthcare delivery through heart-centered leadership and professional excellence.
As a proven change agent, Matthew excels in quality improvement and system-wide transformation. He has spearheaded the co-development of Rapid Response Teams, pioneered innovative clinical informatics solutions, and cultivated resilient, high-performing teams in high-pressure environments. Above all, Matthew strives to inspire nurses and leaders alike to reconnect with their “why.” Leading nurses to seek the unseen, embrace the unspoken, and let love guide the heart toward human connection, the space where true healing begins and the extraordinary is realized.
Over the past 13 years at Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KP NCAL), Matthew has served in increasingly impactful leadership roles, culminating in his current position as Regional Program Manager for the Performance Excellence Team. In this role, he collaborates with regional partners and leaders across 21 hospitals, driving initiatives and new technology that enhance operational efficiency, strengthen financial stewardship, and improve patient outcomes.
Matthew earned an ADN from Pratt Community College (2009), a BSN from Samuel Merritt University (2017), and will complete his MSN CNL at the University of San Francisco in 2025. Matthew is honored to serve as Caritas Coach® Faculty in partnership with the Kaiser Permanente Nurse Scholars Academy. His long-term vision is to maintain and, in partnership, elevate the legacy of Watson Caring Science. Why? Because “Love is the highest level of consciousness and the greatest source of all healing in the world.” – Dr. Jean Watson. This wisdom and beautiful body of work bring us closer to a future where our care and compassion change lives, uplift communities, and redefine what healthcare can achieve.
Outside of work, Matthew prioritizes balance and intentional living, drawing inspiration from his wife, Sherri, and their two young sons, Mason and Corban. Together, they seek joy by uncovering new adventures with family and friends. Rock climbing and forest bathing are consistent favorites.
