Melissa L. Robertson is an Associate Teaching Professor at Gannon University’s Villa Maria School of Nursing in Erie, PA. Melissa also works as a Nurse Practitioner at a Federally Qualified Health Care Center (FQHC), Community Health Net. Additionally, she conducts individual health risk assessments via telehealth visits for Complex Care Solutions.

Upon graduation with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1999, Melissa worked for five years in various Intensive Care Units. She then transitioned to Staff Development Specialist at Hamot Medical Center, now University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Hamot, while obtaining her Master’s of Science in Nursing Degree in 2005. In 2007 Melissa moved to a full-time educator with Gannon University, Villa Maria School of Nursing. She obtained a Post-Master’s Certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2008. She became a Certified Nurse Educator® in 2017.

Melissa is passionate about nursing, teaching and the caring opportunities that we are so honored to have in healthcare. She feels privileged to have the ability to work in both education and clinical practice as a Nurse Practitioner. Melissa began learning about Caring Science from a colleague in 2016. She states, “I found a language for my thoughts, actions, and way of being.” Melissa attended the International Association for Human Caring Conference in Edmonton, Canada in 2017 where she also was a conference presenter. Melissa became a Caritas Coach® in 2023. Melissa attributes the work of Jean Watson and the Caring Science community to renewing her work and spirit.
