Watson Caring Science Institute Announces New Academic Affiliate: Global Alliance for Human Caring Education

For Immediate Release

January 2026 — Deerfield Beach, FL: The Watson Caring Science Institute (WCSI) is proud to announce that the Global Alliance for Human Caring Education (GAHCE), based in Victoria, Canada, has officially been awarded Global Academic Affiliate status from WCSI, marking a significant milestone in its international work to advance Caring Science in nursing education.

Founded in 2017, GAHCE began as a fully voluntary, multilingual virtual network supporting nurse educators seeking to integrate Caring Science into curricula around the world. Over the past eight years, the organization has brought and continue to bring together educators from English and French speaking communities to exchange knowledge, share resources, and strengthen the ethical, theoretical, and philosophical foundations of nursing education.

“We are thrilled to deepen our partnership with the Watson Caring Science Institute,” said Marcia Hills, RN. PhD, FAAN, FCAN, FCNEI, President Global Alliance for Human Caring Education (GAHCE). “This affiliation strengthens the global movement toward humanized, compassionate nursing education and supports our commitment to providing accessible, multilingual, inclusive learning environments for educators everywhere.”

Looking ahead, GAHCE is launching a series of ambitious initiatives aligned with WCSI’s mission and global Caritas community, including:

  • A three-module Caring Science Nursing Education Program, featuring asynchronous online courses on foundational pedagogy, curriculum development, and design. Estimated launch: April 2026.
  •  Live Zoom series, offering dialogue, mentorship, and shared problem-solving for nurse educators worldwide.
  • Co-hosted international events with WCSI, including conferences, webinars, podcasts, and scholarly exchanges.
  • The creation of an Indigenous and culturally inclusive education track, designed with Indigenous educators and student input, along with a best-practices publication planned for release in 2028.
  • Growth of the global educator community, targeting 200 active participants and increasing year-over-year engagement across all activities.

“This new affiliation with WCSI reflects a shared vision for a more compassionate global healthcare landscape—one where caring is central to teaching, practice, research, and leadership.” said Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, LL (AAN), Founder/Director WCSI.

Through these efforts, GAHCE aims to strengthen Caring Science pedagogy across diverse health and education systems, ensuring students and practitioners alike experience education grounded in relational, humanistic, culturally informed approaches.
