Sherri Twardzik, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, CCRN, EBP-C, is a Magnet Program Director and Caritas Coach whose passion for Caring Science is deeply rooted in her 14 years as a cardiovascular ICU nurse caring for critically ill patients and families, including those experiencing ECMO, death, and dying. Early in her career, she was introduced to Relationship-Based Care and the importance of caring for self, colleagues, and patients, an experience that profoundly shaped how she understands the heart of nursing.
After joining Kaiser Permanente, Sherri was inspired by an organization where Caring Science is truly lived and experienced. Her own journey through the Caritas Coach Education Program became one of self-discovery, vulnerability, reflection, and renewed connection to her “why” as a nurse.
Today, Sherri has the privilege of weaving Caring Science into her work with professional governance and nursing leadership. As CCEP faculty, she hopes to help others reconnect with the heart of nursing, discover the transformative power of caring for self and others, and remember what makes nursing so uniquely human.
