At Riverview Medical Center, Oncology nurses, inspired by Jean Watson's Human Caring Theory, prioritize building meaningful connections with patients. When a lung cancer patient's condition necessitated hospice care despite receiving optimal treatment, his nurse recognized the need for a new approach. With support, she took him to a room with a river view, providing a serene setting that prompted him to open up emotionally. This compassionate intervention facilitated gratitude and a willingness to engage further with his care team, showcasing the profound impact of holistic care in difficult medical situations.
